A riot of colour blooms across this large umbrella, drawn from the kothalo, the lavishly embroidered bags and pouches of western India, worked in dense, jewel-bright thread and often dotted with tiny mirrors. Rosettes, paisleys, teardrops and diamond motifs spill over the white ground in red, green, indigo, saffron and gold, each outline echoing the looping chain-stitch and fine detailing of traditional hand embroidery. The effect is joyful and folk-festive, like carrying a piece of celebration overhead.
Generously sized at 610 mm in diameter, it gives you plenty of shelter from sun and showers, finished with a smoothly curved wooden crook handle for a classic, comfortable grip. Bold, busy and full of life, it's an umbrella that refuses to let a grey day stay grey.
