A shoal of fish swims across this large umbrella, each one drawn in the spirit of kantha, the beloved running-stitch embroidery of Bengal, traditionally worked by hand to give old cloth new life. Sketched in coral red, soft pink and inky indigo against a clean off-white ground, the fish range from tiny minnows to plump carp, every body filled with fine dots, scales and patterns that echo the meditative, line-by-line rhythm of kantha needlework.
Generously sized at 610 mm in diameter, it gives you plenty of shelter from sun and showers, finished with a smoothly curved wooden crook handle for an easy, classic grip. Light, lively and full of movement, it brings a touch of folk-art whimsy to a grey, rainy day.
